Campaign Dispatch January 31, 2018

In the Wisconsin State Senate...

  • The big story in the Capitol was the Governor’s State of the State address.  Kathleen’s response focused on how each of us is doing in our own lives. “By that measure, we are not doing well.” We are 18th from the bottom in wages, we have the eighth highest average student debt, we are third from the bottom in affordable infant child care. Wisconsin can do better!

  • On Up Front TV Sunday morning with Mike Gousha Kathleen discussed both the state of the state and her campaign for Governor.

On the Campaign Trail...

  • Saturday, Kathleen spoke to more than 120 at a health care forum in Viroqua sponsored by the Wisconsin Health Justice Campaign and the Wisconsin Farmers Union. She recounted the roadblocks that have always been thrown up to thwart any plan to extend health care but also the victories and the path forward.

  • Kathleen joined the other candidates for governor and hundreds of concerned citizens at the East Side Progressive forum in Madison. Kathleen spoke about a variety of issues including schools, development, addiction, incarceration, tribal issues, and how we win in November. Full video for the forum is available on here. Her closing line got rousing applause,: “I know what it’s like to be slapped in the face by a nasty tail of a cow at 4:30 a.m., so Republican attacks don’t bother me at all.”

  • Kathleen also traveled to Green Bay to talk with the Brown County Democrats and discussed the problems with incarceration and our criminal justice system at a forum sponsored by WISDOM/EXPO.

  • Our hard working organizers met with volunteers eager to get started campaigning for Kathleen in counties scattered across the state from Milwaukee, Sheboygan, Outagamie and Winnebago to Door, Lafayette, Grant, Iowa, Rock, Barron, Burnett, Bayfield and Ashland.
